Mats of fleshy leaves in rosettes. Rosette leaves shiny or coated with white waxy powder, thick, widest below tip, tip slightly notched or rounded; stem leaves smaller, flat across tip end. Inflorescence often flat-topped, consisting of 6–65 yellow flowers aging to pink. Flower petals widely oval with abruptly pointed tips; anthers light brown, yellow, or dark red-brown. Grows in rock crevices on rocky slopes at mid to highest mountain elevations.
