Rumex venosus
Stem upright or lying down with upturned tips, few flexible side branches. Plants spread by thick woody rootstalks, often forming a dense mass. Leaves on stems, 1–4 in., oval, with pointed tip, leathery, with obvious veins. Flowers very large, bright red to pink, on upright spikes. Grows in dry sandy places, even sand dunes, at low to mid elevations. If buried in sand, plants send up new shoots.
