Erect, covered with silky silver-gray hairs. Leaf divided into 17–45 oval leaflets, pointed at tip. Flower spike of yellow to yellowish white flowers is well above the leaves. Grows in dry, sandy, relatively rocky soils, crevices of rocky ledges. Usually found high in mountains. Variable, circumboreal.
