Stem erect, unbranched. Leaves on stems only, all about the same size, long, narrow; lower leaves in 2 whorls; upper leaves 1–3 per node. Flowers 1–3 per stalk from leaf axis, hanging or facing outward, opening wide, brown or greenish brown with yellow, red, or white markings and often with a noticeable yellow edge. Grows in sheltered edges of forests, near shrubs, at mid to high elevations.
