Tall Buckwheat
Erect clump with upward-pointing basal leaves. Stems branched. Leaves large, lance-shaped, often square at base, with long petioles; lower surface slightly hairy; upper surface smooth, sometimes shiny. Inflorescence tops tall stem, small leaf-like bracts at base of long stalk holding small cluster of flowers. Flower white to partly red, with hairy base. Grows on dry hillsides, open sagebrush flats in sandy to gravelly soils, at low to high elevations.
