Dichelostemma ida-maia

Stem upright but often bent by wind or growing through shrubs. Roots spreading, producing new corms. Leaves 3–5, with shiny blue wax, throughout length of back side, withered by flowering. Flower cluster dense, 6–20 flowers each nodding with 1/2–2 in. stalks, long cylinder-shaped tubes, bright red, with green tips turned back, green petal lobes and 3 stamens slightly projected. Grows in edges of forests and grassy areas near coast into high elevations.
