Modoc Hawksbeard
Low tuft with large basal leaves. Stems with few branches carry stiff straight hairs. Leaves 3–10 in. long, lightly covered with gray hairs and sparse yellow to black bristles, lobed into wide-toothed segments. Flower heads large, held singly or in small clusters at ends of short stems. Each head composed of 10–60 petals held in bristly cups. Grows in sagebrush on open dry slopes at mid to high elevations.
