Andrews' Clintonia
Stem erect. Five or 6 leaves 6–12 in. long, 2–5 in. wide, egg-shaped, with pointed tip, somewhat hairy. Flowers in terminal cluster, 20 or more, often 2 smaller clusters lower on stem. Flowers deep pink to red-purple, bell-shaped. Seeds contained in bright turquoise-blue berries. Grows in shaded deep soils in coastal redwood forests. The genus is named for avid naturalist DeWitt Clinton, governor of New York (1817–1822, 1825–1828) and campaigner for the Erie Canal.
