Clump of basal leaves and erect flower stems. Leaves with long petioles, widely spear-shaped, 8–24 in. long, entire to toothed, rough to thinly hairy. Flower stems carry few, small, entire leaves and 1 or 2 flower heads. Ray flowers 13–21, showy, 1–2 in. long, surrounding large center of short disk flowers above bracts that are only slightly woolly. Grows in open sites, grassy areas, at low to high elevations.
